Prepare for Your Business Funding Conversation

A little preparation can make it easier to explain your goals and respond quickly when information is requested.

Begin a Secure Application

Start With the Business Need

Define what you want the capital to accomplish before you apply. A clear use of funds helps frame the conversation, whether you are managing seasonal expenses, purchasing equipment, expanding capacity, pursuing a contract, or supporting working capital.

Funding goal

Describe the business objective and approximate amount you want to explore.

Timing

Identify purchase dates, contract milestones, seasonal needs, or other relevant deadlines.

Repayment fit

Consider how a payment schedule could affect your operating cash flow.

Information You May Be Asked to Provide

Requirements vary by product and lender. Organizing the following details ahead of time may make the review process more efficient:

  • Signed National Business Capital application
  • Most recent business tax return
  • AR/AP aging report
  • Business debt schedule
  • Previous year and YTD financials (P&L and balance sheet)
  • 6 months of business bank statements

The full document list is generally required for financing over $150K. To initiate the process, we’ll first just need your name, phone, email, monthly revenue, and time in business — see if you pre-qualify.

Before You Accept an Offer

Understand the amount funded, payment frequency, term length, rate or factor, fees, collateral requirements, guarantee requirements, and early-payment terms. Ask for clarification on anything that is not clear.

Important Reminder

Preparation does not guarantee qualification, approval, or a particular offer. Final decisions and terms depend on the information reviewed and the funding option available.
